I OFFER my support to Richard Pennicuik and his cause regarding the removal of large eucalyptus trees in Hume Road, Thornlie.
I understand the need to remove trees that are of a concern for the safety of the public, but surely this could also be said about vehicles and many other dangers in life.
If these trees were better managed then the likelihood of large branches falling could be minimised. Jacarandas are just as dangerous; they also lose large limbs.
But I guess the person who made that decision hasn’t had a jacaranda branch fall on their car. The parrot population uses these eucalyptus trees as part of their feeding area and jacarandas don’t offer a suitable food source for the black cockatoos.
A little more thought needs to given to a suitable replacement over a managed time frame and the native wildlife that inhabits these trees needs a suitable habitat while the replacement trees are maturing.
Please do the right thing by the voting, rate-paying people of Gosnells.
