Grant brings first home buyers out in force

EARLY analysis of the property market for 2009 is showing signs of revival, as the effects of the increased first homeowners grant, lower interest rates and stamp duty concessions for first homebuyers start filtering through.

First homeowners accounted for more than 40 per cent of all market activity for the March quarter, significantly higher than the normal market share.

The tripling in the first home buyers' grant to $21,000 for new homes, and its doubling to $14,000 for established houses, has been a major driver of activity.

Molotov attack on liquor store

Arson Squad investigators will release security vision of two men involved in an arson attack on a liquor store in Beckenham on Monday night.

Two males smashed a hole in the front door of the store on Williams Street with a brick before throwing two molotov cocktails inside which caused a small fire.

Police believe one of the men was burned in the incident and are calling for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.

Beckenham liquor store firebombed

Police are investigating a suspected arson attack at a liquor store in the Perth suburb of Beckenham.

Two fire bombs were thrown through a glass door of the store on Williams Road around 10.30pm.

The fire failed to take hold and was extinguished before firefighters arrived.
