"There's a level of competitiveness with a directly elected mayor that people can become uncomfortable with, and I think in other local governments, considerable funding is spent by candidates to become elected so that means only those with plenty of money to give up are in with a chance to win and I think that's a disappointing part of it.

Nile Park gets new playground

"Neighbourhood parks are really important in our community because they provide a space where local residents can get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air, now children have a playground that can keep them entertained for hours."

City builds new road to development

"It is an unusual step for a local government to step in and complete these road projects to stimulate development and encourage investment in our community, which makes this small stretch of road even more exciting. Thornlie Fresh IGA X-press fire: Supermarket gutted in late night blaze

An investigation is underway after a supermarket in Perth's southeast went up in flames on Saturday night.

Fire and Rescue firefighters were called to the blaze at the Thornlie Fresh IGA X-press at 9.40 pm.
